OpenSource, Inc. announces the availability of the Canon object.station 41.
DENVER, COLORADO - October 17, 1994. OpenSource, Inc. today announced
the availability of Canon Computer Systems Inc.'s (CCSI) object.station
41, the first Intel-based workstation designed from the ground-up
to optimize NEXTSTEP performance. Built around the Intel DX4-100MHz
processor and incorporating a proprietary Canon video subsystem
into a highly integrated system design, the object.station 41
delivers performance up to 30 percent faster than other 486 systems
and comparable performance to current Pentium systems running
NEXTSTEP.
The Canon object.station 41 was engineered specifically for NEXTSTEP
by the Advanced Technologies Operation of CCSI. Everything you
need is available pre-configured: NEXTSTEP, Insignia's SoftPC Demo,
on-board SCSI and Ethernet, CD-quality audio, a built-in microphone,
speaker and an optional integrated CD-ROM player. In addition,
there are four available expansion slots. It even has NeXT specific
keycaps and keyboard controls for audio volume and monitor brightness.
"OpenSource is thrilled to have the Canon object.station as our
premiere NEXTSTEP hardware line," said Wes Carrington, VP of Sales
and Marketing at OpenSource. "With Canon's commitment to the
NEXTSTEP market and the object.station's level of hardware integration,
we believe it's currently the best NEXTSTEP workstation on the
market. In addition, with OpenSource's extensive third-party product
offerings, NEXTSTEP users are now able to purchase the first truly
complete custom workstation solution for plug and play capability."
"Canon had two primary objectives when designing this machine,"
said Dale Fuller, director of Marketing at Canon Computer Systems,
ATO. "First, to satisfy customer demand, and second, to do something
no one else in the industry had ever done before -- design a
workstation entirely around the NEXTSTEP operating system. The
result is the only machine on the market that has the hardware guts
to accommodate native NEXTSTEP functions, simply because its
architecture is designed and balanced to do so."
The Canon object.station is currently available through OpenSource
and can be pre-bundled with over 100 different software products
or with additional hardware components, such as the new Movie
Machine Pro from interpersonal-computing, or an internal fax/modem
solution. Please contact OpenSource for a list of pre-configured
options.
